May Lebo

From the Vendor:

There are many things beautiful about the time and place I grew up, but one I am most grateful for is the variety of culture and traditions that make each of us different and unique and beautiful. One visible expression of the culture and tradition is in the jewelry that we wear.

I started selling these pieces to help my mother, who owns a store in Eldoret, Kenya called Afrocrafts & Souvenirs and does much of the beaded work herself. A lot of the pieces I sell are  made from items that would otherwise be considered in their “last stage”–or unusable: bones, coconut shells, wood, tin, and even porcupine quills. Nothing is left to waste, but rather turned into unique, beautiful ornaments given new life!
