Designer Ono Mangano is dedicated to sustainable fashion. A self taught seamstress, she made a controversial transition from found object sculpture to found fashion 11 years ago and found her true calling. She is driven to use what she can find rather than what she can buy. This mentality goes beyond business, Ono has not bought a new piece of clothing for herself in years, everything she wears is thrifted, gifted or hand sewn by her.
Sew Ono eco apparel was founded four years ago appealing to reclaimists and fashionistas alike. Every garment is designed as a one-of-a-kind piece made from hand-selected, pre-loved clothing and textiles. All buttons, trims, zippers and adornments are also pre-existing and sourced by Ono herself.
Inspiration for the seasonal collections comes from a variety of sources. This season’s skirts were designed with vintage aprons in mind after a neighbor delivered yards and scraps of vintage fabrics to the Sew Ono studio door. There are seemingly endless opportunities to recreate and those opportunities are inspiration within themselves. The Sew Ono message is simple: recycling is love.
